Release of Horizontes artísticos da Lusitânia

Here is the Book!

About 60 people and Storm Elsa attended the launch of the book Artistic Horizons of Lusitania. Dynamics of the Classical and Late Antiquity in Portugal. 1st to 8th centuries CE at the National Museum of Archaeology (MNA) in Belém, Lisbon, on December 18th, 2019.

This book has the scientific coordination of Justino Maciel and Filomena Limão and is the result of a collaboration of 25 authors responsible for each chapter. The book was presented by António Carvalho, director of the MNA, Lia Nunes, the edition coordinator and the scientific coordinators, Justino Maciel and Filomena Limão.

The starting point of the presentation was a guided visit by the director of the MNA to the exhibition Religions of Lusitania. Loquuuntur saxa where the inspiring Roman sculpture of a feminine head —dated to the turn of the 4th century CE and found at the Villa of Quinta das Longas in Elvas (Portugal) and portrayed on the cover of the book — is exhibited.

Then coordinators Filomena Limão and Lia Nunes introduced the book accompanied by the winds of Storm Elsa and by all those who dared to resist the adverse weather conditions to attend the ceremony. Technical problems prevented the display of the video record of Justino Maciel but soon the message will be made available via this website lusitania.cantoredondo.eu
